To Tread Lightly
I wash myself in the river.
As I do so I murmur quietly. I have learned the power of words. I give it voice. Using my breath. Vibration.
I wash myself in the river. The cool water runs down my legs and arms and neck. Though the hem of my skirt is tucked up into my waistband it still gets wet. My hair is the color of clotted blood when it is damp and under a night sky, it drips river water down my back. It is not dirt that I remove with the water … but it is swept away by the current nonetheless.
Crash paddles to me, returning from her attempts to follow the offering tossed in the river as they floated away. She gives me a look that says “Why the hell are you throwing sticks and bits of plants into the river if I’m not to chase them?”
I laugh and beckon her to follow me unto the shore. My sandals make squelching sounds as I work my way up the river bank.
I come to a tunnel of vegetation that runs parallel to the river. One side is the weeded… Continue reading
Heart on Sleeve
I wear my heart on my sleeve. It just so happens that my heart belongs to my Craft, my gods and my spirits.
Oh dear.
Shall I back up a bit?
I was chatting with a fellow Witch about a common problem that faces those of who delve into the … more intense … parts of Witchcraft and Paganism.
You meet someone, or (better yet) have a friend, who is interested in your Craft. They want to be introduced to Witchcraft, or your style of it. They probably aren’t total newbies; they might be practising Pagans or follow a more straight and narrow form of Witch-y goodness. But they have an interest in the crooked path, Hedgewitchery, spirit work or some such. I don’t necessarily mean something like an apprentice; this also applies to simply sharing with a friend.
So you open up a bit and let them in.
If you’re used to being kinda alone, like most of us (hmmm wonder what’s behind all the blogging?) then you might make the mistake of going too fast. You get all excited that you have someone to share with and open up the flood… Continue reading
Flavour of the Month: Secrets!
One of the big topics going around Witch-y blogs this month is secrecy and how much you share.
I come across as much more Pagan-ish on my blog … because a lot of the Witch-y stuff just doesn’t get mentioned **at all** As if it does not exist. Which is tough when I’m accused of not being a Witch, because of the Pagan stuff being the most prominent. It’s easy to take the bait and get upset by that. But if certain spirits and certain practices can’t be talked about on a blog, well then that’s the price I pay!
I have a hard time with keeping quiet and keeping secrets. I’ve had a good talking to from my Hedge gals (and certain spirits and such) over that. I have no guile. It doesn’t come naturally.
I WANT to share, for a lot of reasons. One main reason is because I am BAD at not sharing. Damn my glass face, open personality and tendency to trust everyone. Another reason is loneliness and feeling isolated. Another reason is the need to serve and be useful and helpful.
Another reason (one of the main reasons why I started this blog in the… Continue reading
Reading For a Wild Geek
I did a collection casting for a member of the Wild Geek Hang (The Hedge’s forum) and she was happy to let me share the results. Of the reading she told me:
The casting was perfect, I actually burst into tears upon reading it. Thank you so very much for being my “translator” and giving me the kick in the ass I desperately needed.
Her question was that she was wondering where her Path and Practice ought to go, where to focus. And especially which spirits or deities she should be focusing on.
Here it is:
Running through the whole thing like a pair of crosshair or an X is priestessing and shamanism. Shamanism is right at the very bottom though, buried. Priestessing is on top of everything, prominent. Everything else finds itself between, above or below priestessing and shamanism.
Witchcraft & magick is wrapped around the very spot where priestessing (Paganism?) and shamanism meet.
You need to reconcile witchcraft, shamanism and paganism. Bring the pieces together so that they meet, but don’t expect them to be all one in the same. There will be divergences. Sometimes we walk more than one Path at a time; these Paths… Continue reading
Meet Sir Kinght
Say hello to sir knight. He is a suit of armour, in miniature. He stands a little under knee high. Sir knight was won by Brendan at a Bardic competition at some point. Even Bren agrees that somebody lives in sir knight. I dunno exactly what he is … just some random little brownie or something. *shrug* He seemed nice enough.
He hangs out in the entryway, the hub of the apartment, keeping an eye on everything.
He gets knocked over sometimes.
At some point I started calling him sir knight. He gets a beer to himself now and then, and the odd heel of bread or bit of cheese, usually when we’re having the good stuff. I pat his head, especially as we come and go, this is something I’ve seen a few different people to do. He’s also gotten time spent with a view out the window (once also with a nice microbrew local beer).
One day Bren brought home a fake Hawaiian lei from work and I put it on sir knight as a joke. He loved it and didn’t want me to take it off. He got a new one for Imbolg. If you’re throwing… Continue reading
