Wordless Wednesday: Haters, They’re Gonna Hate

(I always break the Wordless rule and post words! Anyway … This is a trimmed down screen cap from a yahoo group a friend of mine took and then sent me . It was posted some time in the last day or so. I thought you might find it amusing. Names have been covered to protect everyone but myself.)

An Open Letter

First just a quick note to Yahoo group folks: I’ve had the same yahoo email (and been a member of certain group) for years now. *shrug* It would be awfully easy to block me if you really tried. Though (and I doubt you will believe me) the only time I ever check yahoo groups anymore is when someone tells me I was mentioned.

Continuing on …

I know there are many Traditional Witchcraft & Hedgewitch websites, blogs and forums out there … in all honesty (and I doubt you will believe me) I really don’t have the time or the attention span to read most of them, most of the time. I am also not a member of most of them. My Internet presence is pretty obvious, I have all of three email address I use for such things after all and I always call myself either Juniper or Alejandra or some variation thereof.  I have nothing to hide, so I don’t.

I can assure you I do not practice plagiarism, but if you feel I might have … please feel free to gather your evidence and sue me.

If I ever write something simular to someone else then that… Continue reading

Regarding Pagan Clergy

* First of all we don’t need to follow a monotheist model of clergy. If you should shudder at the thought of people having the authority to dictate the desires of the gods to you, then you need to study some other spiritual traditions. Not every religion now, or in history, has/had such a set up. In many traditions, including ancient Pagan ones, clergy were facilitators, teachers and sometime guides or counsellors but not some middle man between ourselves and the divine with enough authority to molest little boys and get away with it.

A great model to consider is that of ancient Rome (and this coming form a Celt!) where the clergy were in charge of temples and larger civic shrines, they made sure the correct offerings (okay sacrifices) were given on the right days, they did the big public rituals and things of that nature, but everyone had a house altar and they all got to talk to the gods, do their own family rituals, give offerings and work with deity as they saw fit.

So before you get up in arms over the thought of Pagan Clergy, make sure you are not having a knee jerk reaction… Continue reading

Misconceptions

A friend and I were chatting online about how we perceive people and how people perceive us. You know, you meet someone and as you get to know them you realise they are a very different person that you first thought they were, that kind of stuff. We are all guilty of it sometimes even when we make the effort not to. So here are a few things I find people often assume about me that are not quite right.

I’m not as bossy as you think I am.

Yes, I am fairly outgoing, strong willed and outspoken but that doesn’t mean I need to have my own way. People often assume that if you are a larger than life personality then you must be the kind of person who needs to be in charge. I know my limitations and I lack many important leadership qualities such as organization and excellent social skills, I don’t want to be the leader most of the time. I’ll do it though since most other women (and many men) just sit there looking at the floor like “I don’t know, what you want to do?” UGH! But seriously folks, you can say “no” to… Continue reading

Todays Rant: Curses! (foiled again)

People think that curses are less or non effective if you don’t believe in them, this is false.

Curses are not less effective if you think they are bullshit. Sorry, it just doesn’t work that way. If I don’t believe in UV rays I can still get a sun burn. If I think that only gays get AIDS I can still catch HIV.

Curses are more effective if you believe in curses, believe you have been cursed and get all paranoid about it. This is why someone who believes in curses seems to get it worse than someone who does not, because a believer will talk themselves into thinking its worse than it really is.

It like two people having the same allergic reaction, one is rational and the other a hypochondriac. The hypochondriac is going to itch and scratch worse because he will make a big deal out of it and obsess over it. The rational person will simply apply cream and shrug it off, or ignore it until it goes away.

Also having someone think bad thoughts in your general direction or even send off a negative vibe at you is not a curse. Putting energy into thinking… Continue reading
