Waiting Underground

by patti smith, oliver ray

*

if you believe all your hope is gone

down the drain of your humankind

the time has arrived

you’ll be waiting here as I was

in a snow-white shroud

waiting underground

there by the ridge be a gathering beneath the pilgrim moon

where we shall await the beat of your feet hammering the earth

where the great ones tremble

in their snow-white shrouds

waiting underground

if you seek the kingdom come, come along

waiting by the ridge there’ll be a gathering

beneath the pilgrim moon

where the railroad thunders

oh where we shall await the beat of your feet hammering the earth

and as the earth resounds where the great ones tremble

and your humankind becomes as one

and then we will arise

in our snow-white shrouds

when we’ll be as one

but until that day we will just await

in our snow-white shrouds

waiting underground

in our snow-white shrouds

waiting underground

Hey Mister Tambourine Man

“The sun is rising behind the Stonehenge monument in England, during the summer solstice shortly after 04:52 am, early Monday, June 21, 2010. Druids, pagans and partygoers crammed into the mystic stone circle to cheer, bang drums and shake tambourines in an effort to greet the sun on the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice.” ~ The Associated Press

Drums and drumming have been on my mind a lot these last few months. This is due to a few different events in my life.

An old friend of Brendan’s visited a while ago and was surprised and disappointed that I don’t play an instrument. It seems “everyone in the old coven was musical and artistic”. Le sigh, sometimes it’s not worth trying to explain to people that graphic design, web design, modelling, and arts & crafts count as artistic. Did I mention I’m a poet … even if most of my poetry is about dogs (hehehe)

Bren of course plays a variety of instruments and has done so since the age of 5. So I am now surrounded by music and musical talent.

A friend of mine recently built a lovely new hand… Continue reading

I’m No Heroine

by Ani Difranco

You think I wouldn’t have him

Unless I could have him by the balls

You think I just dish it out

You don’t think I take it at all

You think I am stronger

You think I walk taller than the rest

You think I’m usually wearing the pants

Just ’cause I rarely wear a dress

Well…

When you look at me

You see my purpose,

See my pride

You think I just saddle up my anger

And ride, ride , ride

You think I stand so firm

You think I sit so high on my trusty steed

Let me tell you

I’m usually face down on the ground

Whenever there’s a stampede

I’m no heroine

At least, not last time I checked

I’m too easy to roll over

I’m too easy to wreck

I just write about

What I should have done

I just sing

What I wish I could say

And hope somewhere

Some woman hears my music

And it helps her through her day

‘Cause some guy designed

These shoes I use to walk around

Some big man’s business turns a profit

Every time I lay my money down

Some guy designed the… Continue reading

Redemption Song

If I could play any song, on any instrument, anywhere at all in front of anyone, and play it perfectly … I would …

Play that Christmas Bell song on a xylophone on Mars watching the sunrise over the giant red face the aliens left us.

Or it would be playing “Redemption Song” on guitar in Madison Square Garden in front of all the world leaders on one side, and as many of my friends, family, hippies and Pagans I can cram into the other side.

Oh yes.

Redemption Song

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the ‘and of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
‘Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
‘Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it’s just a part of it:
We’ve got to fulfill… Continue reading

I’m On My (Pagan) Way

I’m on my way, from ignorance to enlightenment today
I’m on my way, from ignorance to enlightenment today
I’m on my way, to what I want from this world
And years from now, I’ll make it to the next life
And everything that I receive in the yonder
Is what I gave to the world in this life

I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took a right, I took a right turning yesterday
I took the road that brought me to a Goddess
I met a God who fills my heart with gladness
I walked the woods to find the Path I’d looked for
I climbed the hill that lead me to Nature’s door

And now that I’m learning the Mysteries
I’ll have Al Jolson sing “I’m sitting on top of the world”!

I’ll do my best, I’ll do my best to do the best I can
I’ll do my best, I’ll do my best to do the best I can
To keep my feet connected to the ground, gods
To keep my heart from jumping through my mouth, gods
To keep the past, the past and not the present
To try and learn, when… Continue reading
