The Course of My Studies Part Two
(I broke this up so I didn’t lose steam and get bored, then never finish. Here’s a link to the first part)
So I left off the last post in my early twenties. I had just had a major falling out with Wicca and was on a hunt for something else. I was delving into the wonderful world of Celtic spirituality.
So I dove into all things Celtic and even hung out with some Reconstructionists. I considered Druidry but it also was not for me. I did learn a great deal from my Druid and Recon friends however, about scholarship and also about filling in the gaps.
My boyfriend at the time was disinterested in spirituality but for some reason had the book “The Way of the Shaman” by Harner and I borrowed it. Actually, I stole it because I never got around to returning it, bad me. The study of Shamanism fell beautify in place next to my love of anthropology, archaeology and mythology. I read as much as I could, especially on the subjects of Celtic Shamanism and Seiðr magick. More of the Matthews and also some Mircea Eliade, Tom Cowan, Peter Berresford Ellis,… Continue reading
The New Casting Cloth
I decided I needed a new casting cloth for my divination set. Since the set is currently “on vacation” enjoying a lunar cycle of relaxing and soaking up the sun light, moon light and the elements. And since the set is also being introduced to a new piece, maybe two, I figured now was a good time. The one being retired is the second one, so now I’m introducing the third cloth.
Why a new cloth? Well a number of reasons.
First and foremost I believe that Witchcraft is a practice. And one thing about practice is that it’s a constant search to try out new things and to improve on what you’ve learned and the skills you’ve gained along the way. I don’t like all this get it right the first time stuff. As if we shouldn’t call ourselves Witches if we’ve ever made a little mistake (or epic blunder) and as if we’ve always done it this way, we have never tried out other things to see how they work.
This last casting cloth was an improvement from the one before and the new one is (hopefully!) another improvement. So after working with the… Continue reading
Not a Traditional Witch
Roughly every 3 months I have to inform someone that I do not define my practice as Traditional Witchcraft. Because I am not a traditional kind of gal. Trad Craft is one of the sources I draw from but not the only one. Being a Trad Witch would put me in a box, I don’t like boxes. I am a free style Hedgewitch and Pagan. It’s totally cool if you are though, be whatever you want, its cool.
This Old Dream
This is the oldest and longest recurring dream of mine. It began very early in my childhood, possibly as young as 5 or 6 and continued on until my early twenties. Some times it was as frequent as once a week and sometimes I would go a year before it came back again. I have not had this dream for six-ish years now (my gods, has it been that long?). I still often have dreams of a similar nature, but this one has not returned for some time. I thought I might share it with you.
It begins in an unlikely place, a park with a lawn bowling area. I have never in my life lawn bowled. The park resembles Bear Creek Park in Surrey BC, though I do not recall a lawn bowling area there. The lawn bowling area resembles the one found at City Park in Kelowna BC; both parks are ones I am very familiar with since I was a small child. The dream starts with myself watching (mostly elderly dressed in white) people bowl on the lawn.
I find myself drawn to an area to the side of bowling area that is wilder. Scrubby… Continue reading
New Addition 2
So I found that I had a bit of a problem. I wanted to let the collection rest and soak up some nice sun and moon light for a while. You know, get some air. As well as have the new piece get the chance to mingle with the group and let everyone get to know each other. Only, its still winter here. We got nearly a foot of snow last night! I do not want to make my collection sit on a freezing cold windowsill, its just not very nice.
The sunroom has south facing windows, which when you’re this far north (for you people closer to, or on the other side of, the equator) means that’s where the sun and moon pass by. The sunroom is not heated though. Its bloody cold in there. Its also a mess. All my arts and crafts stuff and my bike and what not are all sort of piled up in there.
The other windows in the house either get no direct sun and moon light or they are within reach of a certain kitten who is going through that “get into everything” stage of development right now.
There is one window… Continue reading
