Easy Mulled Wine

image

One large bottle of dark red wine. A cup or two or three of cranberry-grape juice. A few oranges in slices or quarters. Plenty of organic honey. Ground cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Cover, low temperature for a few hours. No metal utensils.

Unpacking

Well, I am still unpacking.

I know, I know how could I possibly be still unpacking? I can hear all you awesome super Mom types who are organized and who know (and actually care about) the difference between a pillow case and a pillow sham reacting in horror. Well, I’m not you and why are you reading my blog? Go away perfect people!

Continuing on…

This move has been surprisingly epic considering that all I did was relocate to a different neighbourhood. I mean, I’ve moved to different Provinces, to the USA and back, I’ve moved from the city to the woods and back, I’ve moved from a house to an RV and back.

About 2 years ago I moved from a ramshackle trailer in the woods with a woodstove for heat and a well for water in the BC mountains to a “McMansion” in Ottawa’s suburbs (that was one difficult transition, I think I had more anxiety attacks in 6 weeks than I had in the year before then).

I’ve done some pretty drastic moves. This move was not supposed to be dramatic in the slightest. Pack up, load up, drive 15 minutes down… Continue reading

Little Random Things

I haven’t been up for writing a long and proper post lately, I’ve got stuff going on and all. But I have been writing little bits and pieces of this and that in a word document. Sort of like a series of mini posts or fragments from a stream of consciousness. Well, here they are:

Sometimes it’s annoying when your divination set and spirits keep telling you the same damned thing. Especially when it’s freaking obvious. Yes, I know that, thank you … got anything else to say? No? Uh, well fine, thanks anyways.

You know someone is really into arts and crafts when they stop in mid ritual to chat about an afghan.

I had the girls come over after Bren finished hauling his stuff out to give me a hand. It was kind of like that scene in Practical Magic when they use the phone tree system to call for help. Only I didn’t have a sexy but dead guy possessing my sister. I just needed some help getting off my self pitying ass to move some furniture and clear a little negative energy. I felt bad and tried backing out of it last minute,… Continue reading

Not so Bright

Whose bright idea was it to bake a John Barleycorn bread-man in this heat, with no air conditioning? Mine. Cause I’m an idiot.

Meet Sir Kinght

Say hello to sir knight. He is a suit of armour, in miniature. He stands a little under knee high. Sir knight was won by Brendan at a Bardic competition at some point. Even Bren agrees that somebody lives in sir knight. I dunno exactly what he is … just some random little brownie or something. *shrug* He seemed nice enough.

He hangs out in the entryway, the hub of the apartment, keeping an eye on everything.

He gets knocked over sometimes.

At some point I started calling him sir knight. He gets a beer to himself now and then, and the odd heel of bread or bit of cheese, usually when we’re having the good stuff. I pat his head,  especially as we come and go, this is something I’ve seen a few different people to do. He’s also gotten time spent with a view out the window (once also with a nice microbrew local beer).

One day Bren brought home a fake Hawaiian lei from work and I put it on sir knight as a joke. He loved it and didn’t want me to take it off.  He got a new one for Imbolg. If you’re throwing… Continue reading
