Lady L came early and we did a quick run through of the ritual while I put the scalloped potatoes in the oven. Then we set about rearranging my living room, Lady L prepared Brighid’s throne while I put dirt in the pot to stand my stang in and then we tackled the altar. The gang showed up and after the usual preliminaries we got to work.
We went in procession around my home, placing offerings at each shrine and altar, giving a beer and new adornment to the house guardian as well.
We planted the stang, the World Tree. We called on Earth, Sea and Sky to anchor us. We raised a hedgerow around us. We parted the Veil, creating a Gap in the Hedge, above and below and asked someone special to watch and guard.

Well, its 2011
For New Year’s Eve I made Brendan and I breakfast for dinner, pancakes and bacon to be exact. For dessert we had a glass of Irish cream.
We live within walking distance of Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa, so we bundled up a bit (it was only 4 degrees last night) and headed towards downtown. We decided to walk along the Rideau Canal towards downtown, which was pretty icy and slippery, passing young couples making out as we went. We peered through the windows of the National Arts Centre where the wealthy (and mostly middle aged) folks of Ottawa were enjoying dinner in the restaurant there. Finally we came to the canal locks that are right before the canal dumps into the Ottawa River. There’s a big fancy sail boat in dock there for the winter and we joked it must belong to the Prime Minister.
Turning off the canal we walked along the edge of the Ottawa River. At 11:54 we found just the right spot to welcome in the New Year.
