Another Article on Witchvox

An article I wrote a while back about how people need to stop complaining there are not enough Elders and start working on becoming Elders themselves was put up on witchvox this week. I was out of town and didn’t know until I got home!

Thank you everyone who has emailed me, and I promise to get back to everyone. Might take me a week but I will.

I have gotten the strongest response from HPs and community leaders, half a dozen emails from Head-so-and-so of such-and-such group. Yikes! *hides* Actually, they’ve all had good things to say *shines*

Something I would like to mention to everyone is that I am not making the assumption that there are no more Crowleys and Gardners myself, but addressing that very attitude in the community at large. So please stop emailing me that there are good Elders out there, I know that. Though I may think there’s less out there than you do, I like to set the bar pretty high.

Thanks for reading it and;

YES you may reproduce anything I write just take my name (and better yet a link to Walking the Hedge at the bottom)

A link to the article on the blog (may have less typos)

Cheers!

    What I’m wondering is why you think we need a bunch of big names at all? Why do you think this is even a question that should be asked? I’m not saying you shouldn’t ask it, just why you think it needs to be asked.

    The last thing I want is an influx of a few people speaking for all of us. Just my opinion… I like things just as they are. If you are meant to find an influential Elder in your life, you will. That should be all you need. Not a bunch of current big names that are too busy to talk to you.

    Its not my question. Though it is my answer.
    See I wrote this article back in October, when one week there were several articles on witchvox asking that question. In fact one was named “Why are there no Gardners anymore?” or something along those lines.
    All the articles were people complaining that they couldn’t find any good Elder, or it was people complaining that my generation will not produce such people due to Buffy and Charmed or something.
    I thought both positions were just plain stupid, and figured I’d answer their questions. Only the article was posted months later and everyone has forgotten those articles.
    What I am trying to say, is instead of picking and sniping at each other, instead of demanding that the elders in our community teach whether they want to or not, instead of picking on our young up and coming teachers, we all need to concentrate on our own path, and help each other out. And become those elders and teachers we are all bitching there are not enough of.
    Why do I think we need people like Crowley? Not because they are BIG names, or famous, but because I believe we need controversial leaders, we need people who are not afraid to do and say the things the rest of us are to chicken shit to do. Whether or not I ever meet one myself.
    Cheers!

    THANK YOU for that Witchvox article!! I loved every word. Especially since, even though I began my study of Wicca in 1999, I still had to blaze my own trails because the only local coven I could find was into power plays, domination, and all that crap; the members wouldn’t ever have been able to become the new Gardners or Farrars or Bucklands or anyone else like that. So finally I began a small coven myself a few years ago. We are proud to be eclectic, and I hope we each become one of those wise Elders one day! :-)

    Blessed be,
