I am no newbie (something in between Neophyte and Elder I suppose) either but when I attend group rituals and say things with emotion, show any emotion really, do more than just stand there shifting from foot to foot, people think I’m either crazy, fluffy or new.
*sigh*
People, magick, and ritual works better if you actualy do it and say it like you mean it. You should freaking mean it if your going to do it. You’re there in the presence of your gods, ancestors etc and you are half heartedly muttering lines you are reading from a script written by someone else?!
You don’t have to dance or sing if you’re not comfortable with that, but people: move, emote, toss that freaking script out the window and follow your heart. Pour yourself into it.

it basically highlights the fact that the path is turning into something learned and practiced by the book (which ever book that is). We need to break free form these shackles and just walk the path the way we think it is right for us. It is easier done as solitaries, but here too are insecurities. If you only learn from books you will feel pushed or obliged to fit into certain norms. It is important to learn, but also to put books aside and listen to your heart and intuition in every aspect. If heart and intuition agree what is being written or done within a group than you have find the right path. If it doesn’t sound right to you, than leave. Sorry, I keep writing YOU, but don’t actually mean you (Juniper) directly, but more the readers that come here and might take the time to check the comments. As you have already written Juniper, if your heart is not in it you might just not bother. It’s like taken a ready made spell (instant magick) from book XY expecting fantastic results. The magick comes from within you and not a text that has no meaning to you whatsoever. It should be coming from your heart to make it work.
Again Juniper, I like the fact that you have highlighted it here. The Old Path is not something done by the book.
