Why are there no more Gardners and Crowleys?

In the last couple of weeks a question, or rather a few similar questions, have been coming across my radar, again and again. I do try to pay attention to such things, when they come my way. One or more of these times were in articles posted on Witchvox, while other times this question has been uttered to me by friends. Here are the questions:
“Why are there no more Gardners and Crowleys?”
“Where are the women like Dooreen Valentine and Janet Farrar and Dion Fortune in younger generations?”
“Where have all the good Elders gone?”
“Why are there no impressive High Priest/ess any more?”
… And such similar ponderings.
Despite the fact the fact that I am no Crowley, nor Starhawk, nor Elder, I think I may have hit upon an answer. It’s an ugly answer, and I know that sharing it may only cause me problems. Yet, I feel compelled to share it. So folks, if you are easily offended, please … keep reading. Bear with me, let me sit upon a “high horse” for but a moment and allow me to say some things you may not want to hear.

Beautiful

Beautiful

Why do we allow the media to
hold our women to a standard of beauty
they can never truly achieve?
Why do we allow the media to
hold our men to a standard of masculinity
they can never truly achieve?

How dare our culture
idolize teenaged girls
and make them sex symbols
How dare our culture
be shocked and horrified
when an 15 year old popstar
develops breasts
How dare our culture
react the same way
when years later
that same pop star
gives birth to her child
and sports a Mother’s body

I have had male friends and lovers
tell me in whispered confidences
that the look and feel
of a curvaceous body
pleases and excites them
far more than any
bony rear end
Yet they fear to say or show this
because society has told them
they must feel otherwise
How can we do this
to our lovers, sons and brothers?

How can we allow the media
to tell us our instincts are wrong?
How can we let men think
they are wrong
to love the soft curves
of a woman’s body?

Random Things About Me

I study Witchcraft, Wicca, Druidry, Celtic Recon, Shamanism etc etc … I practice something I can only call Hedgewitchery because its the best fit by far.

There is a momma bear and two cubs living on my back forty right now … right in one of the spots I had chosen to put up a permanent ritual area. So I’m a little behind schedule on that.

I really need to remember to check my mailbox (the real life kind of mail) its in the post office int own. I’m sure its full.

I’ve been Wiccan off and on over the years.

I am a jack of many trades but a master or adept at none.

I have stage fright and a fear of heights, which I try to ignore.

I am currently looking for a stag skull, if you happen to have one laying about.

I’m watching the news. I think I’m going to try to get some food animals living here asap. I dont trust all this craziness about a possible depression or something.

There’s a disappointing lack of pagans and witches within an hours drive of my home.

I want a grey pony named Bill.
